Description
Alaska’s state motto “North to the Future” was chosen in 1967 during the Alaska Purchase Centennial and was created by Juneau newsman Richard Peter. The motto is meant to represent Alaska as a land of promise. A good friend, Marylou Blakeslee, has been a naturalist for the Park Service in Alaska for a long time and I know how concerned she’s been about the effect of climate change for the past 20 or so years. She has kept me aware of the early warning signs and the fragility of our future. This artwork attempts to include glaziers, fishermen, native Alaskans, the breakdown of the habitat both natural and man-made, and many of the endangered animals native to Alaska.
