Summing Up and Looking Forward

Life overwhelmed art this summer but a couple things were completed in July and there are a couple of art shows to look forward to as well. In the finished column is the courtyard mural and another hexagram painting. In the looking forward to column are the acceptance of a couple of pieces from the Postcard to America series for a couple of shows.

Thank you so much for your support during these unsettled times!

I Ching Hexagram 60

Closing in on the last few hexagrams being recreated for my 64 Hexagrams book coming out next year. This book will pair an original haiku with the image of an original painting of each of the sixty-four hexagrams of the I Ching.

Hexagram 60 shows has the trigram for water on top of the trigram for water and is all about using restraint in your relationship with others and with the earth. Think about how healthy wetlands prevent flooding, or how collecting water in the flood season can be used in the dry season. The image was inspired by an Egyptian tomb painting, where a man is pulling water out of a diversion ditch to irrigate the land. In New Mexico this method of diverting water from a river for irrigation is called an acequia.

Upcoming Shows

On Friday, August 2, Arizona: The Grand Conspiracy State from the Postcards to America series will be part of the juried show, On Edge 2024, at the Edge Gallery in Lakewood, Colorado.

ON EDGE is an annual juried exhibition of contemporary work by artists residing in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region who are pushing the boundaries of material and concept. Edge Gallery’s On Edge 2024 Honorary Juror. Jim Robischon, is the owner and director of Robischon Gallery. Jim Robischon has been operating the Robischon Gallery in Denver continually for nearly five decades. Initially, the gallery focused on local and regional artists with emphasis on individualistic artistic vision that is well-informed by the art historical precedents of their genre.

Then on Friday, October 4, California: The Homeless State from the Postcards to America series will be part of Protest 2024, at Fusion’s space in Albuquerque.

Curated by Martin Terry: “Artivism is Artist Activism. Using critical thinking, Artists in this exhibit strive to make a difference and change the world. They offer insight into our humanity and challenge our visual perspective and perception of society. They hold up a mirror for us to view issues that appear on the front pages of the media and also reveal issues hidden under the rug. Their art is art that asks questions and seeks answers. Their goal is to open our minds and reflect on justice and social progress. The art in this exhibit is about paying attention!”
