JULY 2019: Where There Be Dragons

As part of the Creature Feature at Ghostwolf Gallery this month, I’m featuring the dragons from my I Ching Hexagram series.

Why Dragons? The Dragon is a key symbol in Chinese culture representing wisdom and power. Hexagram 1 is made up of six unbroken yang lines and represents heaven, masculinity, and creativity. Read a traditional interpretation of six lines and you’ll find dragons everywhere.

Hexagram 6 is all about conflict which I call “Creative Tension” and I represent it by using two opposing dragons—Heaven vs. Water.

Hexagram 15 has one yang line in the middle—like the hidden dragon Fucanglong who guards the pearl of wisdom in the center of a volcano—the authentic self is nurtured and guarded, only releasing the full force of its inner strength in times of peril.

Mural Madness Continues

Meanwhile, the Mural Team of Roe LiBretto, my son Nick and I continue to work towards completion of the mural on the Orpheum Community Hub building at 500 Second Street SW. The top third is completed and varnished and the infamous articulated boom lift has been returned to the rental company—so it’s ladder time, as we labor through 90+ degree days to bring it to a close.
